Criminal Courts Beat Reporter | The Palm Beach Post (South Florida) June 2018 – Present

  • Daily coverage of hearings, trials as well as constant digging through court records
  • Cases range from manslaughter by a “chucked” beer bottle to police officers accused of rape on the job and death penalty cases
  • Additionally watch for trends in cases, new laws that change both the way cases are prosecuted and sentenced,
  • When the coronavirus closed the majority of court functions in 2020, my coverage shifted from the people appearing in court to the individuals waiting to have their day in court and the new challenges they faced both in their cases as well as their health and safety inside the county jails

Crime and Breaking News Reporter, The Palm Beach Post (South Florida) January 2014 – May 2018

  • Wrote about everything from police body cameras to a face-biting alleged murderer. Spoke with families on their worst days and kept in touch in the months and years after dealing with trauma of having a murdered loved one.
  • Began as a weekend breaking news reporter, moved to regular M – F day shift and then for my last year on the Breaking News desk, I was the night cops reporter.

Reporting Intern, The Chronicle of Higher Education (Washington, D.C.) Sept. 2013 – Dec. 2013

  • Covered all things tech for higher education, from massive open online courses (MOOCs) to the implementation of tablets into curriculum
  •  Daily stories written for the blog, Wired Campus, and long-form pieces appear in the weekly print edition
  •  Managed the blog’s Twitter account, @wiredcampus

Reporter, The New York Times Student Journalism Institute (Tuscon, Ariz. ) May 2013 – June 2013

  • One of 23 students chosen from across the country to cover news and events in Tucson for two weeks while working directly with reporters and editors of The New York Times and The Boston Globe
  • Wrote two science stories, shot video and helped maintain the website

  • One of 25 students chosen from across the country for the Carnegie-Knight initiative to report on the state of post-9/11 veterans and their transition back into civilian life
  • Worked directly with project editors Jacquee Petchel, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and former senior editor for investigations and enterprise at The Houston Chronicle, and Leonard Downie, former executive editor of the Washington Post
